How To Stop Panic Attacks With Self Help

by Robert Hardy

Because panic attack therapies require personal involvement and medication is only a temporary symptom reliever, patients coping with the stress and worries that lead to panic attacks need to learn self help methods. This involves establishing a goal of learning how to relax, stop worrying and making healthy lifestyle choices.

Anxiety self help spells relief!

Learning how to self-soothe is step one. If you experience possible panic attack symptoms, you should immediately focus on positive sensory based actions such as smell, taste, touch, vision and hearing.

Examples include listening to good music; take in the smell of beautiful flowers, perfume or scented candles; listening to nature sounds such as trees rustled by the wind, birds singing or ocean waves; visualizing a beautiful view.

Cook or eat something delicious!

How about treating yourself with a nice cup of tea or hot chocolate? Or, get a massage or take a bubble bath. These are just a few methods that could be of great anxiety self help, allowing one to reduce the frequency and the intensity of the panic attacks.

Some other techniques that are taught in therapeutic sessions include breathing methods, yoga relaxation, neuro-linguistic programming and positive thinking should be put into practice every day.

Increase your self-awareness

Replace your anger with acceptance to reduce a great deal of discomfort experienced because of this.

Detachment

By using detachment, you judge yourself as objectively as possible - it's not good or bad. Rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 and see how it moves up or down.

Positive thinking can be used to replace your negative thoughts and worries so do not fear. Look around you and seek out all of the beautiful things that make you feel good if you find it difficult to be positive and content.

Anxiety self help becomes more noticeable and efficient with this state of mind. Fear becomes a vicious circle which attracts the very experience you are trying to avoid otherwise.
