Understanding Different Types of Depression

Depression is complex. Depression can linger and grow for months or even years before being detected . Studies have shown that millions of Americans will suffer some types of depression this year.  Two thirds of these people, according to estimates, won't seek help for depression.  Those with the disease don't even know it in many cases.  It is normal in this day in age to fall prey to the stress that rules our lives. The road blocks in life have become more severe.  Many families are surviving week to week.  The recent economic crises has created even more pressure to obtain and hold a job.  Stress can give birth to depression.

There are many different types of depression.  Many of the types have similar names and meanings. These labels include manic depression, medical depression, clinical depression and mental depression.  Severe depression refers to the most advanced form of the illness.  Depression is brought on by many associating factors.  One of these is simple biology, brain chemistry issues.  DNA also carries depression.  Those with family histories of depression are at risk.

The same issues can give birth to many different types of depression.  Substance abuse can lead to depression.  Alcohol or drugs both show links to depression.  The death of a family member can increase the chance for depression.  History hasn't been kind to mental depression.  It was considered a personal fault before it was recognized as a disease.  There was very little treatment offered.  Every stage of depression has its ill affects.  Therefore treatment requires early detection.

Once the disease has progressed to severe depression the illness must be treated.  At this stage suicide is often the result.  The calls for help have gone unnoticed and the avenues for hope are slipping away.   Treatments include a combination of talk therapy and prescription drugs.  Support groups can also help.  You can also find many natural herbal medications that have been proven effective in clinical studies.  Help is out there no matter the type of depression.  If you or someone you love are experiencing symptoms of lingering depression please consult a medical professional for diagnosis and treatment.
