How To Stop Panic Attacks

by Jon P Baker

Several million Americans suffer from panic attacks and anxiety attacks every year. That is one hell of a figure. Add on the figures of people suffering from other anxiety disorders and the figure skyrockets. This puts a huge burden on America's medical bill. The stresses of life at the moment with the financial and employment uncertainty are taking their toll and it is not surprising that people are succumbing to these pressures.

Anxiety can get hold of you and before you know it you have become somebody you don't recognize. You have a panic attack. The world seems to close in on you. You're sweating, you're dizzy, your heart beats like a drum and you can't think straight. You just want to get away. These are classic signs of a panic attack.

Trying to run away from these feelings and physical symptoms and pretend all is okay doesn't work. The same issues will still be there. The chances are your anxiety will not go away and the panic attacks will keep happening. The condition will worsen as time goes by. I know from personal experience that taking action is the only way forward.

"Taking action" has become a bit of a mantra recently, especially on the internet. However no action means no improvement. What action can I take? I hear you say. I found a number of approaches that all work, all different but with the same goal :- to stop your anxiety and panic attacks, get you back to leading a normal life, if not better than before. This can all be achieved. Whether you to choose to do it on your own is up to you but a "running buddy" can really help if you feel a bout of anxiety or panic attack coming on.

The first step I took to cure my panic attacks was to find out more about the condition. There is plenty of information out there but here are some potential remedies you might like to try. Remember, some approaches will appeal more than others.

Yoga is a great way to calm yourself down. It teaches you mental and physical discipline. Practiced regularly it will help to reduce your state of anxiety.

Hypnosis can strengthen the effect of the mind on the body, by changing the way you perceive sensations, narrowly focusing your attention so you're not overwhelmed by the symptoms of a panic attack, and helping you to relax physically..

I found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, otherwise known as CBT very beneficial. CBT can help you to change how you think ("Cognitive") and what you do ("Behavior)". These changes can help you to feel better. Unlike some of the other talking treatments, it focuses on the "here and now" problems and difficulties. Instead of focusing on the causes of your distress in the past, it guides you towards improving your state of mind now.

The One Move Technique is a natural technique to stop panic attacks and general anxiety. After a person experiences a panic attack for the first time, the experience can be so impacting that it leaves a strong imprint on the persons psyche. This mental imprint generates a cycle or loop of anxiety and the person develops an unhealthy fear of having another panic attack. People can spend anywhere from months to years caught in this repetitive cycle of anxiety. Panic Away teaches a technique that allows that person to break the cycle of anxiety and return to their former self.

This is just a brief description of panic attacks solutions. You will feel really positive if you can take that first step . Don't be ashamed of the illness. I always think that asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. Get going and you will feel so much more positive about your circumstances.
