How to Fight Anxiety - Recognizing Obsession

by Adrian King

If you are looking to fight anxiety, it would be a worthwhile step to first recognize our personal obsession with everything that goes on around us, and also within of ourselves. Many anxiety sufferers have a very similar mindset, and obsession is a common occurrence. If you wish to fight anxiety, recognizing this problem will do lots for you in terms of your own personal development and happiness.

When referring to how to fight anxiety, it is helpful to relate obsession to the concept of perfectionism. Think about it - when you seem to obsess and over analyze something, is it not because of whatever it is not reaching your idea of 'perfect?' Whether it is our work or other people's reactions to us socially, it always seems to have to run 'perfectly,' or else we anxiety sufferers tend to obsess.

To fight anxiety, it would be extremely beneficial to learn how to relax just a little more. Our obsession over the tiniest of details does nothing to help us. Usually these details are so small that they wouldn't even be noticed by anyone but ourselves. In addition, if there truly is a problem, thinking clearly without worry will allow us to handle the situation so much more effectively.

Another common desire among anxiety sufferers linking directly to obsession and perfectionism is how you feel others feel about you. Often times we can blow our recollections of previous interactions with others drastically out of proportion. Have you ever obsessed over something that someone said to you, only to later find out it was just a passing comment? Remember, nobody is perfect, and even if you do say something a little awkward to someone else; well, they most likely don't expect you to be perfect too, and will not judge you on it.

If it is your desire to fight anxiety, then it is important that you recognize just how obsessive you can be, and how it always links to a form of 'perfectionism' in one way or another. Remember, when we go over a piece of work with a fine comb, we are usually doing it for the things nobody else would notice - relax a little! In addition, be happy with the quirks that you have - everybody has their own, and only those dealing with their own issues will be passing negative judgment on them. Taking these two factors into consideration will allow you to live a carefree and happy life, free of anxiety.
