Symptoms of a Panic Attack
Anxiety is a complicated and serious mental health issue to deal with. When it reaches the levels of a panic attack, it can be even more frightening and serious. However, not everyone is aware of what a panic attack is. This even includes those who may be suffering from such a problem and do not realize it. That is why it is important to understand the symptoms of a panic attack. Knowing the symptoms will allow the afflicted to seek the proper help needed to deal with the problem.
There is a sense of relief with knowing what the symptoms are. With many individuals the panic attack spells can be quite frightening. Many times people think they are in the process of having a heart attack. This scares the person most of the time as they are going through this feeling. But when they know they are only experiencing a panic attack and aren't having a heart attack, they are not nearly as frightened. It is very important to understand what the symptoms are, so that you are able to get the right treatment for the problems you are having. So lets examine the main symptoms an individual experiences as the panic attack occurs.
Your heart racing is one of the main symptoms. This type of symptom is the one that makes you believe you are in the midst of a heart attack. To simply state it, the anxiety builds to a level that makes the heart beat faster. Your breathing can also become labored. This is one of the more frightening parts of a panic attack.
Chest pains happen along with the combination of the labored breathing and the heart beating rapidly. This physical characteristics of the panic attacks can bring on more serious health issues eventually. Chest pains that are quite painful is just the logical progression of these symptoms.
A feeling of dizziness will overcome the person suffering from a panic attack. This can be the result of a number of factors. A racing heart and labored breathing pattern can lead to lightheadedness. Nervousness can also create the disoriented feeling that can cause the sense of dizziness one can embody. This feeling can come with other resultant feeling such as hot and cold flashes. When these problems are combined together, a thoroughly disoriented state of mind may occur.
Excess sweating may occur due to the nervousness inherent with a panic attack. Some may not consider this a serious symptom, but that is not the right way to look at any symptom. Instead, look at all symptoms as serious because a panic attack remains a very serious problem under all circumstances.
Probably the most frightening symptom of a panic attack would be a total feeling of fear and a need to escape. Such symptoms infer a complete loss of control and during this state a person may prove to be a danger to himself. This is one the many reasons why a panic attack needs to be taken seriously since it places the person experiencing such symptoms in a dangerous situation.
While panic attacks are certainly a serious problem, they can be treated. This is why understanding the symptoms are so important. Such an understanding is a precursor to proper treatment.
