How to Stop Panic and Anxiety Attacks

Many things can cause stress: worrying about asking the boss for a raise, worrying about bullying co-workers and family problems are a few examples. Stress is normal and is the way that our body deals with the tensions of everyday life. You may experience a rapid heartbeat or wet and clammy hands when stress occurs. This is how anxiety makes us feel. You may want to take a closer look at yourself, however, when your worries and fears begin to interfere with your daily life. Suffering from anxiety attacks could be the cause.

Attacking Anxiety Attacks

When looking at the questions below, think of how you respond to fear. If you answer positive to these questions, you could be suffering from anxiety disorder.

1. Are you constantly worried, tense and irritated?

2. Are you finding that the symptoms of anxiety disorders interferes with your responsibilities, studies or job?

3. Do you constantly have unfounded fears?

4. Are you always worrying about your future?

5. Are you experiencing unexpected attacks of suffocation, anger or apprehension?

Did you answer positively to any of these questions? If so, you could be suffering from anxiety attacks.

Some people report that they have been under long periods of stress prior to having an attack. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be any real identifiable trigger to cause them. When they occur, it comes on suddenly and can last for a scary few minutes which seems like an hour.

The physical symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks can be as scary as a heart attack which has some of the same symptoms. Even though they last for a varied period of time, from ten minutes to half an hour, the patient can be seriously crippled coping with anxiety attacks.

Overcoming Panic Attacks

It's important to know that getting your stress levels under control is your main goal. Everyone has some stress at some point in their lives; it's just a matter on managing it. Medical conditions that cause the signs and symptoms of anxiety attacks can be ruled out by consulting with your doctor. Consult with a psychologist to evaluate your mental well being. If your fears are taking over your life to the exclusion of everything else, you may need treatment for anxiety disorder.
