How bad does one's general anxiety have to be before a psychiatrist will prescribe anti-anxiety medication?

Can you answer munhasen5's question about anxiety?:

Several times throughout the week, I become anxious with no event that seems to trigger it. But the anxiety isn't so bad that I am completely in a panic. More like a general nervousness that keeps me unfocused enough that I can't concentrate on the task at hand.
